Celebrating Disability Pride Month
Did you know that July is Disability Pride Month? 🎉 Here’s a little background on this important month:
Why July? The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990, marking a historic step toward equality and inclusion for people with disabilities.
What It Stands For: Disability Pride Month celebrates the contributions, identities, and lives of people with disabilities while promoting visibility and challenging stereotypes.
The Disability Pride Flag: Redesigned in 2021, the flag features a black background with five diagonal stripes in red, yellow, white, blue, and green. These stripes represent the diversity of the disability community and the experiences of disabled individuals. The black background honors those who have lost their lives due to ableism, violence, or neglect.
Disability Pride Month is a time to embrace the beauty of diversity and commit to building a more inclusive world. Let’s celebrate together!
